Fitz and the Tantrums play at the Rock Hall on July 6, part of the Summer in the City free concerts.

Fitz and the Tantrums is a neo-soul group from Los Angeles, California. The band originated just two years ago, and have already conquered late night television including Conan, the Late Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live, as well as had their music featured on ABC's Desperate Housewives and CBS' Criminal Minds. In April, they were profiled in Rolling Stone as a Band to Watch in 2011 and now, are playing the Rock Hall for the first time and kicking off our free Summer in the City concert series on Wednesday, July 6th. We caught up with Fitz for some background on the band and thoughts on performing at the Museum for the first time.

How did Fitz and the Tantrums form?
I was broken hearted And losing my mind and my ex called me about the church organ that her neighbor was selling..I feverishly bought it and poured my heart into writing and trying to heal.  Those were the first songs written for Fitz and the Tantrums.  I called my college buddy James King, he recommended Noelle and [made] a few phone calls and we just all clicked instantly.

You’ve had a busy year, from performing on late night TV, to SXSW to having your music featured on primetime TV. What other milestones are you looking forward to in 2011?
Just getting to play music everyday getting to tour the world and have people show up is good enough for us. We just wanna keep building it one show at a time.

How do you feel about performing particularly in Cleveland at the Rock Hall?

We love performing and Ohio has been so very kind to us and important in our career. We've played Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati and now we are coming back to Cleveland again and at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, no less!!

If you could jam on-stage with any musician or band from the past or present, who would you choose and why?

Cee Lo - I just love his voice and flair.
