Vice President of Education and Public Programs - Job No. 0606

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is currently considering applicants for the position of Vice President of Education and Public Programs. The Vice President of Education and Public Programs reports to the President and CEO and is responsible for establishing and directing all educational activities and programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Educational Programming Development

    • Creates educational programs and materials relating to the unique content of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, focusing both on the permanent collection and temporary exhibits.
    • Develops curriculum and learning materials to teach the widest possible audience, from toddlers to adults, about rock and roll culture and its social and historical significance.
    • Develops and implements programs for K-12 students (i.e. Rockin’- the Schools and its distance learning component, On the Road).
    • Provides public educational services to the teacher (i.e. Summer Teacher Institute and other professional development programs).
    • Organizes, oversees, and conducts educational programs, such as live interviews with artists and music business notables, performances, conferences, and lectures.
    • Produces the American Music Masters series, leading the team that organizes this weeklong event.

  2. College/University Program Liaison

    • Builds productive relationships with institutions of higher education locally, nationally, and internationally, serving as the Museum’s ambassador.
    • Serves as a liaison between all area colleges and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
    • Works with college faculties and staff to integrate the Museum’s content and programs into their classes.
    • Develops college curriculum involving rock and roll and popular culture studies.
    • Creates programming, from conferences, lectures, and live interviews to general classes, that explores the RRHOFM library/archives and its unique contents.
    • Helps to position the Museum and the library/archives as centers for popular music scholarship, both through educational publications and programming.
    • Finds ways to use videoconferencing technology to work with educational partners at a distance.

  3. Oversees the programs activities of the Education Division.

    • Devises and implements the division’s strategic plan.
    • Supervises division staff.
    • Reviews workload, schedules, assignments, and monitors status of on-going projects.
    • Assigns specific duties and projects, considering individual knowledge and experience.
    • Monitors daily operations, provides direction and assists with completion of work when necessary.
    • Prepares board reports as necessary.
    • Coordinates work activities with other departments.

  4. Oversees Finances and Administration of the Education Division.

    • Prepares and monitors division budgets.
    • Develops long and short-term division goals.
    • Evaluates performance, provides feedback and conducts performance evaluations.
    • Manages division objectives; troubleshoots as necessary; monitors status of work-in-progress; sets deadlines to ensure completion of division tasks and objectives; and oversees work accomplished.
    • Evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing activities and functions of division to develop and implement alternative methods for improvement of work.

  5. Travels off-site and/or out of state when required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

WORK SCHEDULE:

Ability to work up to 40 hours per week; any shift as assigned, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to work additional hours as workload demands. Hours are primarily 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
