Description of assigments:

Portfolio
Submit a teaching portfolio due in late October that contains the following components:

Original lesson plan or instructional unit
Develop an original lesson plan or instructional unit that integrates popular music into your classroom curriculum.  Use the this lesson / unit plan format.  Lesson / unit plans will be graded according to this format.  All components must be addressed.  Feel free to include any representative course materials.  You may choose to include copies of any assignments, exams, quizzes and/or handouts used.  Describe any audio / video materials used.  Cite any texts or outside readings consulted.  Lesson / unit plans will also be evaluated on overall organization and mechanics.  You must develop a lesson / unit with content that differs substantially from those distributed at the Institute or on the website of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

Reflective Essay
In a well organized 2-3 page, double spaced essay (Times New Roman 12pt font) that represents your best writing, summarize your experiences integrating popular music into your classroom curriculum.  How did your participation in the Summer Teacher Institute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum prepare you to engage your students through rock and roll?  How effective was your arts-integrated lesson plan?  Is there anything that you would change?  What would you change and why?  Describe any gains in student achievement observed as a result of your approach.  How do you plan to continue to integrate popular music into your classroom curriculum in the future?  Cite any references you may choose to mention.  Essays will be graded based on organization, mechanics, and content as described in the directions above.
