Blues legend Muddy Waters was honored for the 5th annual American Music Masters series.
More than any other artist, Waters played a significant role in making the connection between deep Mississippi Delta blues and hard edged, urban and electric Chicago blues. Since Waters’ rise to prominence in the early 1950’s at least two generations of American and British music giants have been influenced by Waters including Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt and the Rolling Stones (who named their group after one of Waters’ songs).

Conference at Case Western Reserve University
On Saturday, November 15 from 9am until 4pm at Case Western Reserve University, scholars, artists, journalists and fans gathered at a conference to reflect on the career of Muddy Waters and his impact on electric blues and rock and roll. Events included a screening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony of Muddy Waters, panels exploring the history of Chess Records, the impact of the Delta blues on Waters' music, Waters' influence on popular music in the United States, the British Invasion's relationship with Waters' music, the culture of the blues and race politics, as well as Waters' influence on contemporary music.
