About the DJs of Jump to It!
For more than 20 years, the multi-talented MC Lyte has been a creative force in the world of hip-hop and beyond. Born in Brooklyn, New York, MC Lyte's debut full-length, Lyte as a Rock, was released in 1988 and her follow-up, Eyes On This, arrived in 1989, containing the Number One rap hit "Cha Cha Cha." She is a two time Grammy nominee, earning one in 1993 for her song "Ruffneck" (from 1993's Ain't No Other album)and a second in 2003 with the song “Ride ‘Wit Me.” Lyte continued to record through the 1990s, teaming with artists such as Missy Elliott and LL Cool J. Today, Lyte is the executive vice president and music supervisor of DuBose Music Group/DuBose Entertainment. She is an in-demand lecturer, traveling to colleges and universities across the nation to share her story of success, which also provided the framework for her book, Just My Take. In recent years, she's added DJ to her resumé, spinning at major events, and she is also the official DJ for Jordan brands. In June of 2011 she was named president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Grammy’s Recording Academy, the first African-American woman to hold this position.
Youngtown, Ohio–native Mick Boogie is one of America's most in-demand DJ talents. In his formative years, Boogie studiously listened to hip-hop DJs, from the seminal work of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri and Stretch Armstrong to the later stylings of DJs Drama and Green Lantern. Boogie's eclectic style defined a series of innovative mixtapes, with 2004's The Big Picture, a collaboration with The Diplomats' Juelz Santana introducing a larger audience to Boogie's singular production. In 2005, he became the Cleveland Cavaliers official DJ (thanks to a ringing endorsement from NBA superstar LeBron James). Boogie has since gone on to work with an impressive list of artists, including Adele, Coldplay, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Common, Eminem, Ghostface Killah, Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West and more.
DJ O-Dub, aka Oliver Wang, has been writing on soul, funk, Latin and hip-hop since the mid-1990s, both for his world renowned Soul-Sides.com site and also National Public Radio, the Los Angeles Times and Wax Poetics. For ten years, he could be heard on 90.7 FM in Berkeley, CA and most recently, co-hosted the weekly Boogaloo! party at the Shortstop in Echo Park, CA. He works as an assistant professor of sociology at California State University, Long Beach.

In memory of Phil Everly, who passed away in January of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the 2014 Annual Music Masters will create awareness for the disease, which affects an estimated 24 million individuals in the United States. The progressive lung diseases include emphysema, chronic bronchitis, refractory (non-reversible) asthma, and some forms of bronchiectasis. Despite being the third leading cause of death in the United States, there is very little research funding for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. COPD is a preventable and treatable disease but the lack of research, awareness and education has resulted in millions of unnecessary hospitalizations, complications and even deaths of patients. The COPD Foundation’s mission is to prevent and cure COPD and to improve the lives of all people affected by COPD. To make a contribution to the Phil Everly Memorial Fund, visit www.copdfoundation.org/PhilEverlyMemorial.aspx.
