As America experienced a growth in consciousness with the civil rights era, Sepia magazine was a clear and steady voice of the African-American community. Often referred to as the equivalent of Life magazine for black Americans, Sepia documented politics, culture and lifestyle. This exhibit showcases over 40 images originally published in Sepia, some not seen since their original publication, of African-American musical figures that shaped not just black culture, but the entire world.
