1960

“Money (That’s What I Want),” by Barrett Strong, with Benny Benjamin on drums, is released. It is one of the first songs to come out of Berry Gordy’s soon-to-be Motown empire.

1969

Motown session drummer Benny Benjamin dies of a stroke.

2002

Standing in the Shadows of Motown, a film documentary that pays tribute to unsung heroes of the Motown sound such as bassist James Jamerson and drummer Benny Benjamin, opens to rave reviews.

2003

Benny Benjamin is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the eighteenth annual induction dinner. Paul Shaffer is his presenter.
