Ahmet on the Supremes

In the history of rock and roll, there are those moments when all the pieces fall together perfectly: the artist, the songwriter, the producer, the record company. When the combination was the Supremes, Holland, Dozier & Holland, and Motown's Barry Gordy, Jr., the result was musical history. The emergence of the Supremes provided the perfect American counterpoint to the British Invasion of the 1960s. From mid-1964 to mid-1965 alone, the Supremes had no less than five consecutive #1 pop hits. Transcending racial and musical boundaries, they created timeless, soulful pop music, that defied imitation. Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson were the jewels in the Motown crown.
