Free performances, screening of rare film footage presented by Thom Zimny and more will bring world’s first Springsteen exhibit alive

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum welcomes Bruce Springsteen fans from across the region and country for a weekend of events devoted to celebrating Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bruce Springsteen beginning Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14.  Live performances, public programs and screenings of rare footage presented by Emmy and Grammy-award winning filmmaker Thom Zimny and more will surround Springsteen’s first-ever exhibit From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen.

To launch the event, music critic and SIRIUS XM Radio Host Dave Marsh will be the Rock Hall’s guest for From Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits on Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. in the Museum’s 4th Floor Theater. Marsh will be interviewed by Dr. Lauren Onkey, vice president of Educational Programs.

Special event partners include Brucespringsteen.net, Backstreets.com and media partner SIRIUS XM’s E Street Radio, SIRIUS channel 10 and XM channel 58. Music scholars, industry experts, Springsteen fans, musicians and bands from around the country will travel to Cleveland for a weekend devoted to telling the story of Springsteen’s career.

The Rock Hall will host a canned food collection in coordination with the Cleveland Foodbank. Most needed food items are peanut butter, tuna fish, beef stew, soup, cereal and canned vegetables.

• Jim Henke, curator of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s exhibit From Asbury Park to the Promised Land will talk about the curation of the world’s first exhibit devoted to Springsteen
• Chris Phillips of Backstreets magazine will be interviewed by Lauren Onkey, vice president of Education
• Lauren Onkey will spotlight the Born in the USA album

A free concert on the Museum’s Main stage featuring Colin Gawel of Watershed

Special Films:

• Bruce Springsteen’s Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony - Highlight Footage. Springsteen inducted Bob Dylan, U2 and Creedence Clearwater Revival and following his own induction, performed with the E Street Band and Wilson Pickett.
• Blood Brothers- A documentary following the reunion of Springsteen with the E Street Band to release the Greatest Hits album. The film captures them behind the scenes and performing live.
• VH1 Storytellers featuring Bruce Springsteen
• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Hammersmith Odeon, London ‘75
• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band – Live in New York City (2001)

About From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen

From Asbury Park to the Promised Land is a comprehensive look at Springsteen’s music, from such early bands as Child, the Castiles and Steel Mill through his work with the E Street Band and as a solo artist. The exhibit includes several of Springsteen’s guitars, including the Fender Esquire that is on the cover of Born to Run. It also includes the outfit he wore on the cover of Born in the U.S.A., as well as numerous handwritten lyric manuscripts, posters and handbills from all phases of his career, and various awards and honors. In addition, the exhibit includes Springsteen’s 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, which he purchased after the success of Born to Run. The exhibit will run until Spring 2010.

Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
