Patty Griffin Interview

At one point in the course of our Craft Artist Series interview with Patty Griffin, she made the point that she thinks of herself, first and foremost, as a singer.  Given what she can deliver as a vocalist, this makes sense . . . but less so the longer one thinks about it.  If Patty had never made recordings under her own name and in her own voice, she would still be an appropriate interview subject for the Craft Artist Series.  Her songs have been covered by Linda Ronstadt, the Dixie Chicks, Emmylou Harris, Bette Midler, Solomon Burke, and others.  Her contribution to the music of today extends so far beyond what she is capable of as a singer and performer that it’s hard to think of her as “first and foremost, a singer.” It just doesn’t capture all she is bringing to the table.  The interview with Patty helped to illuminate the fact that she remains one of the most adventurous songwriters out there today.
