The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Library & Archives welcomes Johnny Ray Miller as the next speaker in its Author Series.  Johnny Ray Miller will discuss his book When We’re Singin’: The Partridge Family and Their Music.  Members of the audience will be able to engage with the author in a Q&A session, as well as purchase copies of the book for signing.

In late 1970, the Partridge Family hit the U.S. pop charts, landing “I Think I Love You” at No. 1 in the first season of their breakout television show. The music opened a bright new decade in pop music while launching the enormously successful solo career of David Cassidy.

Cleverly crafted but dismissed as bubblegum, the music was written by some of the top songwriters and music producers of the day, including Boyce & Hart (the Monkees), Appel & Cretecos (Bruce Springsteen) and Cashman & West (Jim Croce) and played by the infamously talented session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew.  When We’re Singin’ chronicles the Partridge Family from its inception through the final season and beyond with more than 100 interviews, digging deep into the music for the first time to explore the band’s unique sound—one that has earned respect from music critics and fans worldwide.  The mystery of the iconic Partridge Family bus is revealed, and many more detailed stories including the creation of the famous Partridge bird logo by Sandy D’Vore.

When We’re Singin’ is the first biography of the Partridge Family as a legitimate band with its own place in music and television history.

Johnny Ray Miller, a native of Canton, Ohio, has been an aficionado of the Partridge Family television program and their recorded music from the show’s beginnings.  Miller is a concert and theatre producer, actor and director.  He has produced and directed live theater for more than 25 years, and has presented live concert performances by David Cassidy, Davy Jones and may others.  Miller also has experience in the film and TV industry as well, having worked on Desperate Housewives, Rules of Engagement, Kings of Queens, CSI: New York, E.R., Cold Case, Without a Trace, The O.C. and others.  When We’re Singin’ is Miller’s first book.
