Franklin ya había anunciado el sonido de lo que estaba por venir con su primer sencillo producido por Jerry Wexler para Atlantic Records, "I Never Loved a Man (the Way l Love You)", grabado en los Fame Recording Studios de Rick Hall, en Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
