During the final weeks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s groundbreaking exhibit devoted to Bruce Springsteen, the Museum is pleased to host a special screening of Darkness on the Edge of Town, a film by Emmy and Grammy-award winning filmmaker Thom Zimny on Friday, January 14 at 7 p.m. in the Foster Theater. The film has only been shown in a theater once before at the Ziegfeld in New York City. Zimny has collaborated with Springsteen on London Calling: Live From Hyde Park, Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run, Live in New York City, Live in Barcelona, VH-1 Storytellers, and several videos.
This special edition of the Museum’s From Songwriters to Soundmen: the People Behind the Hits will culminate with an interview with Zimny conducted by Dr. Lauren Onkey, vice president of Education and Public Programs at the Rock Hall. Questions will be taken from the audience. This event is FREE with a reservation and open to the public. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (216) 515-8426 to RSVP.
In the film, Springsteen and The E Street Band play the Darkness on the Edge of Town album live in sequence but with no audience. It was filmed by Zimny on December 13, 2009 at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park. Jon Landau had this to say about the performance during a recent interview with Rolling Stone: “We filmed the band playing the album straight through a number of times on the 2009 tour. In the end we decided to go with this more austere presentation — without the audience — which best captures the starkness of the original album.”
The Darkness on the Edge of Town film is part of Bruce Springsteen's 'The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story," released in November 2010. The Deluxe Package comprises over six hours of film and more than two hours of audio across 3 CDs and 3 DVDs. 'The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story' offers an unprecedented look into Springsteen's creative process during a defining moment in his career.
'The Promise' 2-CD set contains 21 never-before-released tracks from the 1976-78 'Darkness on The Edge of Town' sessions. 'The Promise: The Darkness On The Edge Of Town Story,' a 6-disc deluxe set (including 3 CDs and 3 DVDs), features eight hours and 33 minutes of audio and video and contains the internationally celebrated documentary "The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town" (as seen on HBO) as well as the complete 'The Promise' 2-CD set.
“From Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits” gives Rock Hall audiences an inside look at aspects of the music business that are often concealed from view.
