Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Announces New Chairman of the Board and New Board Members

Chris Connor succeeds Alec Whitman who will continue to serve as a Trustee

New Trustees include Brian Caine, Carol Cunningham, Dennis Devine, and David Goodman 

CLEVELAND (August 8, 2016) – The board of directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio announced the election of Chris Connor, Executive Chairman of The Sherwin-Williams Company, who previously served as the board’s Vice Chairman, to the position of board Chairman. Connor takes over from Alec Wightman, Partner at Baker & Hostetler LLP, who served as Chairman of the board since 2013 and will continue to serve as a Trustee on the Executive Committee.

At its last meeting, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame board of directors also elected four new members:

  • Brian Caine, owner, European Wax Centers and Great Clips
  • Dr. Carol Cunningham, State Medical Director, Ohio Department of Public Safety
  • Dennis Devine, Co-President, Key Community Bank
  • David Goodman, Director, Ohio Development Services Agency

Connor is the thirteenth chair in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 20-year history, and has served on the board since 2002. Currently, Executive Chairman of The Sherwin-Williams Company, he has been with the organization since 1983 in roles of increasing responsibility. He is also on the board of directors of Sherwin-Williams, Eaton Corporation, the Playhouse Square Foundation, University Hospitals, and is a member of the dean’s advisory committee of the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University. He graduated from Ohio State University.

In addition to the board’s leadership changes, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has named four new members to its board of trustees, appointed to three-year terms. The new members add to a board of trustees made up of business, industry and community leaders worldwide. The board supports the nonprofit organization’s unique mission to engage, teach and inspire through the power of rock and roll.

Over the past twenty years, the Rock Hall has welcomed over ten million visitors from around the world and generated more than two billion dollars in economic impact for the region. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame furthers its mission through new exhibits, interactive displays, award-winning educational activities, its Library and Archives, live music performances, and programs that bring the stories of rock and roll to life. The new board members join during a busy time for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with a packed summer of live music, the installation of Rock Boxes in the City, the debut of its featured exhibit: Louder Than Words: Rock, Power and Politics, and more.

About Brian Caine

Brian Caine owns five Great Clips locations, two European Wax Centers, and three Wild Birds Unlimited stores in the Cleveland area. He previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for Dependable Chemical Company in Rocky River. Caine is currently in his second term as President of the Cleveland/Akron/Canton Great Clips co-op. He previously served as Chair of the Franchise Advisory Council for Wild Birds Unlimited. He grew up in Shaker Heights, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, and received his Masters of Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University.

About Carol Cunningham, MD

Dr. Carol Cunningham is State Medical Director for the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of EMS. She is a board certified emergency physician at Akron General Medical Center and an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Dr. Cunningham is the EMS Medical Director representative on the National EMS Advisory Council (NEMSAC), a past chairperson of the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) Medical Directors Council, and serves on the Ohio Medical Coordination Plan Committee. She received her medical degree and completed an emergency medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati. She completed the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education and the Homeland Security Executive Leadership Program at The Naval Postgraduate School & The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Homeland Defense and Security.

About Carol Cunningham, MD

About Dennis Devine

Dennis Devine is a Co-President of Key Community Bank. He is responsible for Key’s Consumer and Business Banking lines of business nationally. He is also a member of KeyCorp’s Executive Council and Executive Leadership Team. Prior to joining Key, Devine served as Group Executive Vice President and Director of U.S. Distribution at Citizens Financial Group.  Previously, Devine was at PNC Bank where he held senior leadership roles in Retail and Business Banking, as well as serving as Chief Financial Officer for the Retail Bank.  Earlier, he was a consultant with McKinsey & Company, Inc. and practiced as an attorney at Jones Day. Devine graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude and a recipient of the Sears Prize, and from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science.

About David Goodman

David Goodman is the Director of the Ohio Development Services Agency. Appointed by Governor John R. Kasich, he joined Development Services from the Ohio Department of Commerce where he served as Director from 2011–2013. In 2001, Goodman was seated in the Ohio Senate, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for Civil Justice. Additionally, Goodman served on the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee; the Environment Committee; and the Committee on Health, Human Services and Aging. Born in Bexley, Ohio, Goodman began his career in public service as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Ohio. In 1995, Goodman was elected to Bexley City Council, and, in 1998, Goodman was appointed to serve the remainder of an unexpired term in the Ohio House of Representatives and was elected to a full term later that year. He is a graduate of Miami University and the Case Western Reserve University College of Law.
