ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME OFFERS FREE BACK-TO-SCHOOL RESOURCES FOR PARENTS, TEACHERS AT ROCK HALL EDU POWERED BY PNC

More than 723,000 students (kindergarten through college) reached with materials for all subjects that engage through the power of rock & roll

No matter what back to school looks like, and while the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s well-respected Toddler Rock and Rockin’ the Schools in-person programming are on pause this fall, you can take advantage of free resources at Rock Hall EDU, Powered by PNC, to transform the new school year and engage students through the power of rock & roll.

“We’re here to help teachers and parents engage with students as schools move to an educational environment that takes place at home, online, or a little bit of both,” said Jason Hanley, vice president of education and visitor engagement for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “Rock Hall EDU, our free digital learning platform with the support of PNC, is full of resources and activities that use the power of rock & roll to engage students of all ages.”

Through teachers and parents, Rock Hall EDU has already reached over 723,000 students from more than 5,000 cities in 111 countries around the world.

“The Rock Hall has a wide variety of educational resources for students of all grade levels that can make an impact in today’s classroom – whether in person or virtual,” said Pat Pastore, PNC regional president for Cleveland. “We’re proud to help support this innovative programming that makes learning more fun and stimulating, especially during a difficult time.”

Teachers and parents can create a free account at Rock Hall EDU (rockhall.com/education) to explore and download resources developed by our award-winning education team. You’ll find professionally developed lesson plans, activities and downloadable activity sheets, presentations, videos, playlists, writing prompts, and more to engage students in the power of rock & roll as they learn about history, language arts, science, math and, of course, music. All materials meet national and state learning standards.

Featured collections include:

“It’s Been Said All Along” Collection: In every generation, Black rock & roll artists have elevated the conversation about social justice. Use this collection to bring the spirit of the physical or virtual exhibit to your students with poster activities, Aretha Franklin RESPECT lesson plans, music and activism in the 21st century playlists, and more.

Stop the Hate: Youth Sing Out Collection: The Rock Hall, in partnership with the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Roots of American Music, designed this songwriting program for students in grades 6-12 to learn more about how rock musicians have tried to Stop the Hate from its beginnings to today. Watch Joan Baez perform a song about immigration with the “Joan Baez Sings 'Deportee'” video. Use presentations to introduce students to artists such as Mahalia Jackson, Bob Dylan and Public Enemy, who have long tried to stop the hate. Students also can participate in a Stop the Hate songwriting contest with winning students/classes performing their songs at the Rock Hall in 2021.

“Voice Your Choice” Collection: This project-based learning program helps students amplify their voices and invites them to create their own Inductee class.  The goal is to teach students to develop the ability to make aesthetic judgments, understand the musical tastes of others, and learn to present a persuasive case about their choices.

Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll Collection: Younger learners can enjoy musical instrument worksheets and stretch their imaginations with writing prompts, while older students can learn through videos about the electric guitar, or drumming with inductee Max Weinberg, and consider how musicians use instruments to make political statements in the “Pete Seeger Banjo” activity. The materials complement the Museum’s exhibit, co-organized with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has been extended through December 2020.

Due to COVID-19-related travel and field trip restrictions on schools, the Rock Hall is pausing its well-respected Toddler Rock and Rockin’ The Schools programming (both Powered by PNC) in person this fall, and providing parents and teachers with many of the programs’ resources, such as Rock N’ Learn worksheets and activities, at Rock Hall EDU.

Rock Hall EDU posts new content regularly and encourages parents and teachers to submit requests and feedback to [email protected].
